Most dancers assume the path to an oversplit is simply doing more oversplits — pushing deeper, holding longer, forcing the body further than it wants to go. But some of the most effective flexibility breakthroughs come from stretches that have nothing to do with a split at all. The secret is tricking your body into releasing further than it thinks it can, gradually and safely, so that when you do return to the floor, you’ve already moved past your old limit.
